School Reviews

Marshall is certainly not the worst school in our area. In fact, they do several things right: teach accountability, teach citizenship, and have a high grading standard. The small size would seem to indicate that students would have easy access to hep and teachers, etc. As a parent of three students who are in or have gone through the school, I just don't see that happening consistently. There are great teachers there. Some do far more than anyone should expect. There are a few, however, who create frustration with lack of organization and lack of communication to parents. The worst year - due to course expectations/imbalance - is junior year. Students are consistently overwhelmed with homework and class work. Many nights were spent on projects etc until midnight or later - with kids who worked hard the whole time and did not procrastinate like many. There must be a better way to prepare our children. As another parent mentioned, the heat/cool situation is less than optimum. In a building that old, the solution isn't easy or cheap. It would be nice though for students not to stew all year round in some rooms and chill in others. The town around Marshall is the school's greatest asset. The community rallies around the school system like few others of this size. Every event seems well-attended and/or supported from afar. The small town heart of the town is bigger than most cities 10x the size. All things considered, the educational quality is good. As a parent and educational worker for over 20 years, I see that there are things that could be improved, but overall, this is a nice little town with an acceptable school system.

Marshall is a nice school because it is small and the kids can get the help and attention they need. It's also in a nice spot. The only main real problem I see is that the school needs to spend their money on different things. Instead of redoing the football field or spending money on sports you need to pay to have air conditioning throughout the entire school. Kids cannot concentrate at all with it being so hot. Then in the winter when the kids finally think it is going to be nice and cool because the hot weather is over, that dosen't happen because of the steam heat system. You people crank up that heat so much that the kids are dripping with sweat just like its a hot summer day. Learn to control the temperatures a little better.
