My grandson is fortunate enough to be enrolled at SHS and from the tenth grade he was taking college-prep classes which will enable him to graduate fom the 12th grade with an Assciates Degress.
He has had encouragement from the teachers and counselors since he started there in the 9th grade and enjoys his classes and teachers.
Because of the encouragement and closeness of the faculty he has succeeded in attaining becoming a member of both the football and baseball teams and participated in programs at Charleston Southern University. He is alo a member of the National Honor Society. Counselors meet with students to assist in planning their goals of the future and it is on course up to the students as to whether they wish to succeed. Teachers cannot make a student pass or fail - it is up to the individual to seek help when they need it.

The school is ridiculously dirty and over-populated. The teachers have ZERO respect for the students which in turn makes the students have no respect for the teachers. Since moving here I have noticed that the majority of kids I came to know have dropped out all together. Its sad when you think about it; having a 67% graduation rate? That's close to half the students never finishing high school. Honestly I regret begging my parents to come to this school. You can get a much better education at Ashley Ridge or Colleton County. Don't come to Summerville HS.
