I believe your school (Woodmen Hills Elementary) needs some focus on character education. Our son ran the mile for a different team against Woodmen Hills. Throughout the race he endured unwanted comments about his appearance. Comments like "creepy eye" and "freak". What your students don't know is our son was born without an eye. In fact the eyelid was fused shut making a rare condition more difficult. He will undergo his eleventh surgery in seven years in 2 weeks. I'm proud of our son to just be involved. Yet he genuinely competes and with pride and sportsmanship. He ran an 11-minute mile. Not too bad for a seven year old. By the way, did I mention he takes medication for a heart condition? Simply competing is a blessing. To have your students behave inappropriately and make such insensitive comments did not dampen our son's spirits, which is a testament to his upstanding character. On the other hand, your students (and ignoring coaching staff) failed to represent your school with neither dignity nor good character. It is scary to think your students may be future leaders in our community and you, personally, can hang your hat on your influence in their young lives.
